CBI court sentenced IAS officer, had to write someone else’s paper

Ghaziabad: An IAS officer has been sentenced to three years in prison for taking the exam in place of someone else. The name of the IAS officer found guilty of writing someone else’s paper in bank clerk recruitment is Naveen Tanwar and has been posted in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh for the last 10 months. Apart from IAS Naveen Tanwar, a fine of Rs 10,000 each has also been imposed on five other people.

Actually, the recruitment examination of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) Clerk was conducted on 13 December 2014. Then Naveen Tanwar, a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, had come to take the clerk recruitment examination at the Ideal Institute of Technology in Ghaziabad. CBI has arrested Naveen Tanwar and Sawan, who were appearing for the exam in place of Amit Singh and Ajay Pal. Investigation also revealed that Sugriv Gurjar and Hanumat Gurjar had provided solvers to both the candidates. The accused got bail from the court after their arrest. On the basis of evidence and statements of witnesses, the court found all the accused guilty and granted one month’s bail to appeal against the sentence.

When Naveen Tanwar took the clerk recruitment exam in place of someone else 9 years ago, he himself was preparing for a government job. In the year 2019, he passed the Civil Services Examination of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and was selected in IAS. 10 months ago, he had got the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner cum cum-Project Director District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Bharmour sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Before this, he had also held the post of Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Kangra and Chamba.

The CBI court has also sentenced five other people along with IAS officer Naveen Tanwar. A fine of Rs 10,000 each has also been imposed on all. Naveen did not appear in the court at the time of sentencing in the CBI court on Thursday. Non-bailable warrant has been issued against him.
