According to the villagers, the series of deaths started on February 5, when a villager died, the next day two villagers and then on February 7, four deaths together created panic in the village.
The villagers had even then said that the villagers died due to poisonous liquor. But the officials, talking about food poisoning, had claimed that the deceased and their family members had attended a wedding function in Koni on February 5, and had eaten food. Before this, he had also killed and eaten fish from the pond. Along with this, it was said that the cause of death would be revealed after the post-mortem report.
