Cambodia and US begin trade talks

World World: Cambodia has completed the first round of trade talks with the US in Washington, in which the two countries discussed measures to strengthen mutual trade and investment relations. These talks hold special importance for Cambodia as the US is Cambodia’s largest export market. If Cambodia does not get a reduction in the highest tariff rate of 49%, its textile and footwear industry could suffer huge losses.

Cambodia has a trade surplus in the US market, with 37.9% of its exports worth about $10 billion in 2024 sent to the US. This mainly includes textiles and footwear, which are an important part of Cambodia’s economy and employment.
