Brother in law who burnt sister in law alive gets life imprisonment

Rajnandgaon. The District and Sessions Judge has sentenced the accused brother-in-law, who burnt his wife’s sister alive, to life imprisonment. The judge has also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the accused. In case of non-payment of fine, the accused will have to face additional punishment of six months. Public Prosecutor Narayan Kannauje, who prosecuted the case, said that the accused brother-in-law has been sentenced to life imprisonment by District and Sessions Judge Sushma Sawant.

Manisha Sen’s marriage was to take place between 22 and 24 May 2021 in Kopedih of Tumdibod police post area of the district. Many guests had come to attend Manisha Sen’s wedding program. Meanwhile, on the night of 21st May, when everyone was sleeping in the house, at 5 am in the morning of 22nd May, Manisha Sen, who was preparing to become a bride, was burnt alive by her brother-in-law, Hemlal Sen, who poured kerosene on her.

This incident was witnessed directly by a female guest, Rambha Sen, resident of Raka. Manisha got badly burnt by the fire. Rambha Sen tried her best to save Manisha, but she also got burnt. The family admitted Manisha and Rambha to the hospital and informed the matter to Basantpur police station. After receiving the information, the then Inspector Ritesh Mishra recorded the statements of Manisha Sen and Rambha Sen with the permission of the doctors. Seeing Manisha Sen’s condition worsening, she was sent to Raipur, where she died after a few days. Based on the information of Rambha Sen, the police registered a case against the accused brother-in-law Hemlal Sen. In this case, the accused Hemlal Sen was arrested and sent to jail. A case was registered against the accused under sections 307 and 302.

Tumdibod outpost in-charge inspector Ritesh Mishra investigated the entire matter closely. A long hearing took place in the court on the basis of the charge sheet prepared by him regarding this heinous incident. Ultimately, justifying the police action on the basis of solid evidence, the court sentenced the accused brother-in-law to life imprisonment.
