Body elections: Demo being done with EVM machines in every ward

Mahasamund. Under the Urban Body Election 2025, information was given on the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) to other voters including Divyang voters in Bagbahara Ward 2. This awareness program was organized at Anganwadi Center where Master Trainer Bhupendra Nirala specially informed the Divyang voters about the ways to make the voting process smooth and convenient. In this program, 21-year-old Divyang young voter Prasiddha Manikpur was also given detailed information on the use of EVM machine.

Returning Officer Umesh Sahu said that special arrangements have been made by the Election Commission for Divyang voters, such as wheelchair facility, assistance of support personnel and availability of ballot paper in Braille script. Election officials said that voting for the post of president and councilor in the urban body elections will be done through EVM. Separate buttons have to be pressed for both the posts. Pressing the button for the post of president will make a light beep sound. On pressing the button for the councillor post, a long beep will be heard, which will indicate that the voting has been completed successfully. Apart from this, it was also specifically told that the voters should not press the “END” button of the EVM after casting their vote. The voting process will be considered complete only after pressing the voting button for both the posts.

The purpose of this awareness campaign is to motivate the voters to vote fearlessly and freely. The officials appealed to the city residents to vote in maximum numbers on the polling day and ensure their participation in strengthening democracy. For this, employees have been put on duty in each ward.
