BJP objected to making Colonel Sofia a spokesperson: Former CM

Madhya Pradesh : Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He questioned the BJP’s silence over the controversial remarks made by Minister Vijay Shah about decorated Indian Army officer Colonel Sophia Qureshi. Addressing the media in Indore, Singh thanked the Madhya Pradesh High Court for taking suo motu cognizance of Shah’s remarks and ordering an FIR against him. Singh claimed that BJP leaders had objected to the appointment of Colonel Sophia as a spokesperson. Singh questioned, “What problem do BJP leaders have with Colonel Sophia being made a spokesperson? Is it because she is a woman? A Muslim? Or a soldier who chose to serve the country and now has served democracy?” He challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda to clarify their stand and accused them of giving tacit approval through silence. Singh also targeted the ideological roots of the BJP, saying, “The BJP and the RSS thrive on division.” Referring to the online trolling of Colonel Sofia and India’s official spokesperson and former ambassador to China Vikram Misri, Singh alleged that even their families were not spared. “What is shocking is that many of these trolls are followed by Modi himself,” he said.
