Bihar: Crisis after bridge collapse, concern over safety of other bridges In a worrying situation for Bihar, a portion of a bridge over the Gandaki river in Siwan district collapsed on Wednesday morning, the seventh such incident in the state in the last 15 days. Located in the Deoria block of the district, the Chhota Pul connects several villages with Maharajganj. No casualties have been reported so far. This is the second incident of bridge collapse in Siwan in the last 11 days. Deputy Development Commissioner Mukesh Kumar said the exact cause is being investigated. He informed that senior officials of the block have already reached the spot. ”A portion of a bridge in Deoria block collapsed this morning. Till date, the exact cause is not known. Senior officials of the block have reached there and I am also going there.” ”The incident took place around 5 am. According to initial information, the bridge was constructed in 1982-83. Repair work is being carried out on the bridge for the last few days,” Kumar said. Villagers suggested that the bridge may have collapsed due to heavy rains in the past few days and the flooding of the Gandaki river may have weakened the bridge structure. The incident comes just 11 days after another bridge collapsed in Siwan, highlighting growing concerns over the state of infrastructure in Bihar. On June 22, a portion of a bridge collapsed in the Daraunda area. Similar incidents have been reported in districts like Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj recently, prompting the Bihar government to set up a high-level committee to probe these incidents.
