Bhumi Pednekar on ‘The Royals’ backlash: ‘I didn’t want to dramatise it’

Mumbai: Actress Bhumi Pednekar has announced that she will soon be appearing in a new web series called Daldal (2026). The actress will be seen as the lead role as Mumbai DCP Rita Ferreira , which she describes as one of the “most complex characters” as well as the creatively satisfying experiences of her career.

The other casts of the series include Aditya Rawal, Samara Tijori, Jaya Bhattacharya, and Saurabh Goyal. Directed by Amrit Raj Gupta, the series is based on Vish Dhamija’s novel Bhendi Bazaar.

Bhumi Pednekar was last seen on screen in The Royals, where she starred opposite Ishaan Khatter, which released in May 2025.
The actor recently revealed that she hasn’t returned to a film set since June, following the project. Which means she had been on a long break of 9-months.

Opening up about her experience, Bhumi shared that the intense criticism surrounding The Royals left her feeling emotionally “numb.” She also spoke candidly about stepping away from work, saying the break was essential for her to heal, recharge, and reconnect with herself both personally and professionally.

Bhumi expressed in an interview that that she had been on a break for a long period since June after getting trolled online and receiving criticism for The Royals. To this she added that she did not announce her decision to take a break as she did not want to dramatise it.
