Bhubaneswar: Fire in apartment in Laxmi Sagar, two dead, girl seriously injured

Odisha: A massive fire broke out at the Basanti Villa Apartments in the Lakshmisagar area of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, on Wednesday morning. Two people were killed and a young girl was seriously injured. The incident caused panic and chaos in the entire area.

According to preliminary information, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electrical panel board in the apartment complex’s guard room. The fire spread rapidly to surrounding areas, preventing those present from reacting.

The two deceased have been identified as security guard Basant Behera and caretaker Sulochana Behera. It is reported that they were present near the guard room at the time of the fire and were caught in the sudden blaze. They were unable to escape and died on the spot.

A young girl was also seriously injured in the incident and was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. According to doctors, the girl’s condition remains critical and she is undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the fire service team immediately arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire. After considerable effort, firefighters brought the fire under control. During the rescue and relief operations, approximately 27 people were safely evacuated from the apartment, averting a major loss of life.

The local administration and police have launched an investigation into the incident. Initial investigations suggest an electrical short circuit as the likely cause of the fire, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Following the incident, security has been tightened in the apartment complex and surrounding areas. The administration is also investigating whether adequate fire safety measures were in place in the building.

This incident has once again raised questions about the state of fire safety in urban residential complexes. Local residents are demanding that the administration take strict measures to prevent such incidents and regularly inspect safety standards in all apartments.
