Bengaluru Police stunned by fake call claiming there was a bomb in Raj Bhavan

The city police were alarmed by a telephone call on the night of 11 December, which said that a bomb had been planted inside the Raj Bhavan complex here and it could be detonated at any time.

The police visited the Governor’s official residence and eventually concluded that it was a hoax call.

According to Raj Bhavan sources, the call was made from Bidar, the northern district of Karnataka on the Maharashtra border.

A Raj Bhavan official told PTI on Tuesday, “Investigation has revealed that the call was made from Bidar. The phone got switched off after the call. Police are trying to trace the person who made the call.”

He also said that the Governor is currently found in Belagavi.

Bengaluru Police (West Division) Deputy Commissioner Shekhar H Tekkannavar said the NIA control room received an anonymous call the following midnight, following which the Bengaluru police were alerted.

“After a thorough search, no one was found,” he said. We are investigating the matter. No one has been arrested so far.”
