Bengaluru Newlywed Couple Dies By Suicide 2 Days And 1000 Km Apart

Bengaluru: A newly married couple had differences within two months of their marriage. Due to this, they ended their honeymoon midway. The couple committed suicide in two different places. Suraj Shivanna, 36, and Ganavi, 26, from Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, got married on October 29. The newly married couple went to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon. However, they returned to Bengaluru midway due to a fight between the two.
Meanwhile, Ganavi’s parents brought her to her birthplace. They alleged that she faced rejection and humiliation from her aunt. On December 29, Ganavi committed suicide. Following this, family members rushed her to the hospital. However, doctors declared her brain dead. Ganavi was treated by putting her on ventilator support. Doctors confirmed her death on December 25.
On the other hand, Ganavi’s family has been protesting over her death. They have complained to the police that her in-laws’ family harassed her for dowry and incited her to commit suicide. They also protested in front of her in-laws’ house, demanding her arrest. In this context, the police have registered a case against Shivanna.
Meanwhile, in the wake of these developments, Shivanna, along with his mother Jayanti, went to Nagpur in Maharashtra, a thousand kilometers away from Bangalore. On December 27, he committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his hotel room. Shivanna’s mother also attempted suicide. The local police reached the hotel on the information of Shivanna’s brother. His body was sent for postmortem.
Meanwhile, Shivanna’s mother has been rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment. However, she is in a critical condition and is fighting for her life, a police officer said. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway into the incident, it was revealed.
