Bengal Election Commission appoints two nodal officers for Panchayat elections

Kolkata (IANS). The West Bengal State Election Commission (WBSEC) on Tuesday informed the Calcutta High Court that it has appointed two nodal officers for the panchayat elections to be held on Saturday.

These two officers are Additional Director General (Law and Order) of West Bengal Police Javed Shamim and West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS)-cadre officer Amitabh Sengupta.

The election body informed the court in the form of an affidavit.

Shamim will play a key role in coordination with WBSEC regarding deployment of Central Armed Forces personnel for various election related work.

At the same time, Sengupta will play the role of coordinator between the commission and the state government.

On Monday, the WBSEC informed the court that the Union Home Ministry has confirmed the sending of 485 more companies of the Central Armed Forces for the upcoming elections.

With this, the total strength of the central forces has increased to 822. 337 companies are already deployed.
