Bengal: 4 IPS officers will get police medal
KOLKATA: The West Bengal government has decided to award police medals to four IPS officers, including Kolkata Police DCP Indira Mukherjee, a senior official said on Saturday. Mukherjee, who was heading the Special Investigation Team (SET) probing molestation allegations against Governor C V Anand Bose, was recently in the news after the Raj Bhavan alleged that the SET had a key role in fabricating false allegations against Bose.
It had also claimed that the Kolkata Police cannot probe allegations against the governor, a constitutional head, in such a manner. The Home Ministry had said the Centre cannot interfere in the matter and take action against any IPS officer working in a state and only the concerned state government has the power to take any action. Mukherjee and OSD in CMO Debjyothi Das have been selected for the CM Medal for Meritorious Service. The CM Police Medal for Distinguished Service will be awarded to Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh and DIG (Security) Avvaru Ravindranath.
