Bank ready to deal with rush of depositors of ₹2000 notes

Separate counters have been made as the number of customers increases.
Lucknow (IANS) | Around 905 branches of all banks in Lucknow and 12,000 branches across the state are ready to accept and exchange Rs 2,000 notes from Tuesday. As the number of customers increases, separate counters have been made and police help will be taken if needed. Anil Tiwari, media in-charge of the United Forum of Bank Unions, said the rush is unlikely to increase as very few Rs 2,000 notes were in circulation.
The common man need not worry as the last date for exchange and deposit of these currency notes is September 30, 2023, he said. Tiwari said that account holders whose Know Your Customer (KYC) status is correct can deposit Rs 2,000 notes in their accounts.
He said, Rs 2000 notes of Rs 10,000 will be deposited in Jan Dhan accounts. These notes can be exchanged between May 23 and September 30 at all banks and regional offices of the Reserve Bank of India. In the meantime, these notes will continue to be legal tender/in circulation. On Monday, Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 9 crore were deposited in all the banks and Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) in Lucknow.
