Ballari: Three employees drown in JSW steel plant tank
Ballari: In a tragic incident, three workers drowned in a water supply canal at the JSW Steel Plant in Toranagallu town of Ballari district on Thursday. The deceased include Gante Jadeppa (31) of Hosapete, assistant manager Shivamagdev M (22) of Chennai, and Sushant Krishna Nayanru (21) of Bengaluru. The incident occurred when the trio were doing repair work in a water supply canal, which suddenly got filled with water due to a technical fault. Their bodies were recovered from the water tank. The relatives of the deceased reached Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences to collect their bodies. Ballari Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranjit Kumar Bandaru confirmed that the three worked at the JSW Steel Plant in Toranagallu and drowned in the water tank on Thursday. Workers entered the flux tunnel at JSW Steel’s HSM3 unit where water is continuously pumped onto a hot steel strip which is further collected in a tank with several compartments. When the flow of water stopped due to a glitch in the power supply, the trio entered the tunnel to identify the cause, but when water suddenly started rising in the tunnel they were swept away and fell into the tank (which is about 70-80 feet deep. ) drowned in. , However, no family member has filed any complaint. JSW Steel Plant did not give any official statement. No case has been registered.
