Balianta mob lynching case: CM directs strict action

Odisha: The incident of mob lynching in the Balianta area of Odisha has created an atmosphere of tension and concern in the state. Taking a serious view of the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania to initiate strict action against the culprits.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that the Chief Minister spoke directly with the DGP and instructed him to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. He also directed that all aspects of the incident be thoroughly investigated, and the culprits be identified and strict legal action be taken against them.
According to the CMO’s statement, the Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident and issued clear instructions to the police administration to take effective steps to prevent such incidents in the future. He stated that maintaining law and order is the government’s top priority and that any form of mob violence will not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister also spoke with Shovana Mohanty, Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW). They were instructed to visit the scene, assess the situation, and gather detailed information about the incident. It is reported that the SCW Chairperson will visit Balianta tomorrow.
According to information received, the incident occurred on Thursday in Balianta, on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar. A young man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault two women. The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Swain, a resident of the Adaspur area.
According to reports, Soumya Ranjan Swain was a constable with the Government Railway Police (GRP). Following the incident, tension has spread in the area, and police have deployed additional forces to control the situation.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are questioning several people. The administration maintains that an impartial investigation will be conducted and the culprits will be brought to justice.
This incident has once again raised serious questions about law and order and mob violence in the state. The government has made it clear that strict action will be taken against the culprits and no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
