Azerbaijan will reopen embassy in Iran
TEHRAN: The Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran’s capital Tehran will soon resume its operations. “Some agreements have been reached between Iran and Azerbaijan in line with the increasing (diplomatic) activities in bilateral relations,” media reports on Friday quoted an unnamed Iranian Foreign Ministry official as saying. Apart from reopening the embassy, official meetings between the two countries were also on the agenda, Xinhua news agency reported. Iran will send a new ambassador to Azerbaijan as Ambassador Seyed Abbas Mousavi’s mission as Tehran’s envoy to Baku ended, the report said. Azerbaijan closed its embassy in Tehran following an armed attack on the mission on January 27, 2023, which killed one staff member and injured two others. Baku described the attack as a “terrorist act”, but Tehran said the investigation showed the attacker’s motive was personal. Both sides have intensified diplomatic efforts in the past months to restore their relations.
