AYUSH education and health services will get a new dimension in Tripura

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the Ministry of AYUSH has approved ₹75 crore for the construction of a homeopathic medical college and an integrated AYUSH hospital in the state, boosting Tripura’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 54th Statehood Day celebrations at Rabindra Satbarshiki Bhavan, Saha said the proposed homeopathic medical college and AYUSH hospital will be built in Gomati district.

He described this initiative as part of the state government’s larger effort to expand affordable and accessible healthcare while creating educational opportunities for Tripura students.

The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is actively considering the establishment of a dedicated health university. He said the proposal is currently under discussion in the Council of Ministers, with the aim of enabling students to pursue medical and allied health education without leaving the state.

Regarding the government’s focus on healthcare delivery, Saha said that under the CM JAY and PM JAY Universal Health Coverage Schemes, claims worth ₹298 crore have already been settled.

He stated that beneficiaries under these schemes have received completely cashless treatment, demonstrating the government’s commitment to universal health protection. He also announced plans to build a 100-bed tertiary care eye hospital to address specialized eye needs in Tripura.

Referring to the state’s economic outlook, the Chief Minister said that Tripura received investment proposals worth ₹15,800 crore during the Rising North East Summit in New Delhi, representing nearly half of the total proposals received for the entire North Eastern region.

He further stated that approximately 60 percent of these proposals have already progressed towards implementation. Saha also read out a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he praised Tripura’s cultural heritage and development progress, recalled his visit to the Tripura Sundari Temple, and described the recent peace agreements with the NLFT and ATTF as the beginning of a new era of stability and development for the state.
