‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, ‘Dhurandhar’ register strong Box Office clash

Mumbai: ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ and ‘Dhurandhar’ are witnessing an intense box office clash, with both films recording huge numbers in India and overseas, though in very different markets.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Avatar collected Rs. 85.50 crore in India within its first five days of release. Despite a solid opening, the film saw a comparatively weaker Day 5 performance when measured against ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which had earned Rs. 164.05 crore on Day 5 in 2023.
James Cameron directed ‘Avatar’ continues to draw audiences with its immersive 3D visuals, the stunning world of Pandora, and universal themes of environmentalism, while Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ has emerged as a major Indian success, collecting around Rs. 103 crore in its first three days despite presence of the Hollywood flick in the theatres.
Despite the clash, ‘Dhurandhar’ topped the Indian box office and became a mega hit, also making history by crossing Rs. 200 crore overseas, while ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ posted a strong $ 275 million international opening in five days.
The Avatar franchise began in 2009, with its second instalment releasing in 2023. James Cameron has announced Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 for 2029 and 2031, respectively. Meanwhile, the makers of ‘Dhurandhar’ have confirmed its sequel will release on March 19, 2026.
The clash highlights the growing strength of Indian cinema alongside Hollywood.
