The festival of Holi is celebrated for two days, Holika Dahan is performed on the first day and Abir Gulal is applied to the family and loved ones on the second day. holashtak before holi
Holashtak is celebrated eight days before the festival of Holi and no auspicious work is done during this period. Holashtak starts from Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month and continues till Purnima Tithi. This time Holashtak will start from March 17 and will end with Holika Dahan on March 24. During Holashtak, eight planets remain in a fierce state, hence no auspicious or auspicious programs are performed during Holashtak.

When is Holi?
There is a provision in the scriptures that if there is full moon on both the days, then Holika Dahan is performed on the full moon day falling in Pradosh period during Bhadra Mukt period. Therefore, this time the festival of Holi will be celebrated on 24th March and the festival of Rangotsav will be celebrated the next day on 25th March. Bhadra is also falling on 24th March, on this day Bhadra is starting from 9.54 am in the morning and will last till 11.13 pm. After this Holika Dahan can be done.

Holika Dahan will last from 11:13 pm to 12:32 am on 24th March. In such a situation, you will get only 1 hour 20 minutes time for Holi Puja.
Holika Dahan puja method
Before Holika Dahan, take bath and sit at the place of worship facing north or east. Then make idols of Holika and Prahlad from cow dung and keep them in a plate filled with roli, flowers, moong, coconut, intact, whole turmeric, batasha, raw cotton, fruits, batasha and water in a kalash. After this, worship Holika and offer worship materials. Also offer five grains in the name of Lord Narasimha and Vishnu. Then take the name of Prahlad and offer grains and flowers. After this, take raw cotton and revolve around Holika seven times and at the end add gulal and offer water. After Holika Dahan, offer things like raw mango, saptadhya, coconut, mutta, moong, gram, rice etc.
