Attention Cheating through AI voice cloning, know about this new method

Noida: With the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, a cyber criminal cheated a retired Inspector (SI) of Uttar Pradesh Police of Rs 2 lakh by imitating the exact voice of his brother-in-law’s son living in America. This is the second case of voice cloning in the city. Sector-20 police have registered a case and started investigation. Ranjit Singh, resident of B Block of Sector-20, told the police that he is retired from the post of SI of Noida Police Department. Ranjeet’s brother-in-law’s son works in America. He had been living with Ranjeet since childhood. In such a situation, he calls Rajneet as father. On April 5, Ranjeet received a call from an unknown number. The call was from his brother-in-law’s son working in America. The son said that he had an accident in America. He has a lawyer. For this he needs two lakh rupees. He also gave the advocate’s account number. After this Ranjeet transferred an amount of Rs 2 lakh to the concerned account. After this, when Ranjeet called his friend to inquire about his son’s well being, he came to know that nothing happened to his son and neither did he call. After talking to his son, the complainant came to know about the fraud. When the complainant called the fraudster’s number again, it started getting switched off. The police is collecting information about the account to which the money has been transferred. Cyber experts said that cases of voice cloning have started coming to light due to leaking of AI software. Using software, a fraudster copies any person’s speech, from pitch, decibels to accent. This requires a call of a few seconds. Cyber experts said that to avoid fraud with the help of artificial intelligence, people must verify the call once. In such a case, definitely talk to the person from whose number the call has come. Call his friends also and gather information about him. Also contact the local police where the accused talks about arrest or accident. According to experts, voice cloning will be the most lethal weapon of cyber fraud in the coming days. Two months ago, fraudsters had cheated a hospital employee of Rs 40 thousand by using the voice of a child with the help of Artificial Intelligence technology. Posing as Mumbai Police officers, the thugs had committed fraud with a person working in the district hospital. The fraudsters had threatened to send the victim’s son to jail, alleging his involvement in the murder of a woman. The thugs had also narrated the sound of the child’s crying to his father through AI technology.
