Assistant Engineer Sanghamitra Pattanayak and his associate nabbed by Odisha Vigilance
Bhubaneswar: Sanghamitra Pattanayak, the Assistant Engineer (AE) of Balianta Block in Bhubaneswar and his associate, Benudhara Parida (Private Person) have been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance.
The Assistant Engineer and his associate were nabbed while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor, the complainant, for clearing his final pending bill.
Complainant had been requesting the accused AE to clear his pending amount Rs 42,000 against the total bill amount Rs 2 Lakhs. But, Pattanayak was demanding a bribe of Rs 10, 000 from the complainant to clear his outstanding amount even after execution of work by complainant.
Finding no other way, the complainant alleged before the Vigilance authorities, narrating his harassment by accused Assistant Engineer.
Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed both Pattanayak and his associate Parida, while Pattanayak was taking bribe Rs 10, 000 through Parida from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations connected to Pattanayak from DA (Disproportionate Assets) angle.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 06/2025, U/s 7 & 12 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against both Sanghamitra Pattanayak and Benudhara Parida. Investigation is in progress against the accused persons.
