Assam SIT to file chargesheet in Zubeen Garg ‘murder’ case on Friday

Guwahati: The Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) is scheduled to file its charge sheet in the Zubeen Garg murder case before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Metro) on Friday.

The investigation relates to the unexplained death of the famous singer, who died while swimming at the North East India Festival in Singapore on September 19.

Police have arrested seven people in connection with the case. Five of them are lodged in the Baksa District Jail, while the remaining two are in judicial custody at the Haflong sub-jail in Dima Hasao District.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the progress and said, “The SIT will submit the charge sheet, and the court will investigate it. The court will punish the guilty. After the charge sheet is filed tomorrow, the police will fulfill their responsibility, and the judicial process will begin. I am confident that the court will ensure justice.”

He appealed to the public to maintain faith in the legal system and assured them that the truth will prevail.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), working under the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), took over the investigation after more than 60 FIRs were registered across Assam in connection with the singer’s death.
