MAIBANG: Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika distributed seed capital checks of ₹10,000 each to over 18,000 beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Campaign (MMUA) at a special program held in Maibang, Dima Hasao district, on Tuesday.
On the same occasion, the minister laid the foundation stone for five major road development projects totaling 120 kilometers in length. These projects, to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹997 crore with World Bank assistance, are expected to significantly improve road connectivity in the hilly district. Hazarika said that these projects reflect the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and will bring about a major transformation in infrastructure and communication in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Hazarika urged the women beneficiaries to utilize the financial assistance judiciously to start income-generating activities so that they can qualify for the next installment of ₹25,000 next year. He said that schemes like Orunodoi, Nijut Moina, and the Women Entrepreneurship Mission are empowering women by promoting self-reliance and financial independence.
Highlighting the development journey of Dima Hasao, the minister said that improved infrastructure has reduced the travel time between Haflong and Silchar from approximately six hours to about one and a half hours, boosting tourism and economic activities. He credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Sarma for bringing peace and rapid development to the district, which was previously affected by instability.
Hazarika also emphasized the government’s transparent recruitment process and appealed to the public to continue supporting the Chief Minister to maintain Assam’s development momentum and secure its position among India’s fastest-growing states.
The event was attended by Sports Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of DHATC Debolal Gorlosa, MLA Jitu Goswami, senior officials, and other dignitaries.
Later, the minister inaugurated a bamboo industrial park at Mandardisa, constructed at a cost of ₹49.43 crore under the DHATC package. The aim of this project is to promote bamboo-based industries, support local entrepreneurs, and create employment opportunities for the youth in the region.
