Assam: Gaurav Gogoi criticized the Assam Chief Minister over the Zubeen Garg death case.

Assam: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on December 18 questioned the credibility of the chargesheet filed in the Zubeen Garg death case, alleging that it was deliberately crafted to protect Shyamkanu Mahanta, a close associate of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking to reporters in his home constituency of Jorhat, Gogoi said that senior lawyers in the state have pointed out serious flaws in the chargesheet, calling it “extremely weak” and stating that it omits the names of several individuals who should have been included as accused. He claimed that these shortcomings have eroded public trust in the investigation.
Gogoi also dismissed the Chief Minister’s repeated threats and intimidation tactics, saying that such pronouncements no longer have any effect on the public. “I don’t care about the Chief Minister’s threats,” he said, adding that Sarma’s statements have become so predictable that people now respond to them with sarcasm, often referencing idioms associated with singer Zubeen Garg.
The Congress leader said that the Chief Minister’s behavior will not last long. “For the next four months, he can do whatever he wants. After that, when he loses power, he will have to live among the people,” Gogoi said.
According to Gogoi, there is widespread skepticism across Assam regarding whether justice will be served in the Zubeen Garg death case. He said that public confidence in the process remains low, especially given the chargesheet, which he alleged was designed to protect influential individuals rather than to ensure accountability.
