Assam: Four arrested for hunting hog deer in Kaziranga National Park
Guwahati: Four people have been arrested for allegedly killing a deer in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, a statement said on Thursday.
A hog deer was hunted on January 2 and its carcass was found near Koilakhat village number 1 in Bokakhat in Golaghat district, Kaziranga National Park (KNP) said in a statement.
On receiving this information, taking immediate action, a team of Bokakhat Field Officer, Investigation Officer and 10 armed personnel was formed and reached the spot.
According to the statement, officers used the department’s sniffer dog, Leon, who managed to locate the hunters’ escape route.
“Interesting artefacts were recovered from this trail, including an iron spear believed to be the murder weapon, a bamboo stick and a distinctive gray cap,” he said.
According to the KNP authority, the suspected poacher fled towards the Diflu Tea Estate, but was eventually detained.
According to the release, three more suspects directly involved in the killing of the deer were successfully detained on Wednesday.
