Empowering students
During the distribution ceremony at the Sarusajai Stadium, the Chief Minister distributed awards and incentives under several flagship schemes. Under the Anandoram Borooah Merit Scholarship, 26,969 students who scored 75% or more in the HSLC examination were given cash prizes.
To promote education and reduce transportation challenges, 3,23,640 bicycles were distributed to Class IX students under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme. In addition, 48,673 scooties were given to girl students who passed the higher secondary examination in first division and to students who scored 75% or more marks. The distribution was part of the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, which was subsumed into the Pragyan Bharati scheme.
Highlighting the state’s unique education ecosystem, Sarma said, “Assam is unique in its commitment to nurturing future generations. The admission fee waiver and these initiatives are creating a strong support system for students.”
Support to flood victims
The initiative also brought much-needed relief to flood-affected families. Financial assistance was provided to help them recover from their losses. The chief minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure prompt and adequate compensation for all affected individuals.
Loan waiver for women
In another impressive move, Sarma reaffirmed his promise to waive loans up to Rs 50,000 taken by mothers from financial institutions. He announced that NOCs and clearance certificates were being issued to these women, which would help them repay their loans.
The chief minister also highlighted upcoming reforms for college students, including a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 and waiver of examination fees. “These measures are aimed at reducing the financial burden and creating a brighter future for the youth of Assam,” he said.
The “12 Days of Development” initiative reflects Assam’s commitment to inclusive growth, with a focus on meeting critical needs and empowering its citizens.
