Assam: Another Lat Mandal Caught Accepting Bribe in Lakhimpur District

GUWAHATI: In yet another blow to corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption successfully apprehended a Lat Mandal, Dulal Chandra Baniya, in Assam’s Lakhimpur district. This incident took place on a Saturday when Baniya, posted at the Narayanpur Revenue Circle, was caught red-handed accepting demanded money. The allegations against him revolved around a complaint regarding mutation works. The anti-corruption cell wasted no time and swiftly moved to apprehend the accused at his residence in Dhalpur, where he had accepted a bribe from the complainant in exchange for expediting mutation paperwork. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption shared the news of the successful operation on their official social media platform, stating, “Today, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped Dulal Ch. In that case, a Lat Mandal named Hemendra Bora, stationed in Tinikunia under Lakhimpur district, was arrested on graft charges. Bora had demanded a substantial sum of Rs. 1 lakh in exchange for processing the namjari (land mutation) application submitted by an applicant. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when he set out to collect the remaining 50 percent. Law enforcement officers acted swiftly and apprehended him while he was en route to receive the second installment of the bribe, thereby thwarting his corrupt intentions. These back-to-back incidents involving corrupt practices within the ranks of Lat Mandals in Assam’s Lakhimpur district raise serious concerns about the integrity of administrative processes.
