Aruppukottai: Laborer Murder Case — Wife and Friend Arrested; Police Investigation Underway

Tamil Nadu: In a major development regarding the death of a laborer under suspicious circumstances in Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar district, the police have arrested the deceased’s wife and her male friend. Both are accused of conspiring to murder the laborer by drowning him in a local irrigation tank (Kanmai).

The deceased has been identified as Saravanaperumal (47), a resident of the Vellakottai Vadapokki Street area. His body was recovered on Friday from the Pappankulam Kanmai. While the initial inquiry suggested a death by drowning, the police subsequently began to suspect foul play.

Upon receiving the information, the Aruppukottai Town Police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it to the Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Based on the post-mortem report and preliminary investigations, the police registered a case of murder and initiated an inquiry.

During the course of the investigation, the police arrested Saravanaperumal’s wife, Vellaiyammal, and her friend, Seerangam (45). Both are currently being interrogated as the police strive to uncover the full truth behind this entire incident.

According to reports, the deceased, Saravanaperumal, and Seerangam had previously worked together at a private spinning mill. Later, Saravanaperumal quit his job and began working as a tent-pitcher. During this period, Seerangam’s visits to Saravanaperumal’s home became increasingly frequent.

Local sources suggest that, amidst this growing familiarity, a relationship developed between Seerangam and Vellaiyammal—a connection now suspected to be the motive behind this crime. However, the police have not yet officially confirmed this aspect and are currently investigating all angles of the case.

Police officials stated that the matter is being investigated in depth to determine how the murder was planned and to ascertain whether any other individuals were involved.

Currently, both accused individuals remain in police custody and are undergoing interrogation. The police have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem report and available technical evidence. Following this incident, a sensation has spread throughout the area, and locals are discussing this heinous murder. The police have appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumors and have asked them to wait until the investigation is complete.
