Army Major’s fiancée ‘sexually’ assaulted in Odisha

Odisha: As the controversy continues over the alleged assault on Indian Army Sikh Regiment officer Major Gurvnesh Singh at Bharatpur police station and sexual harassment of his fiancée, statements of Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and the victim woman have come to light. The incident has led to major political unrest in Odisha. Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik demanded a judicial inquiry, while the BJP hit back at the former defence chief. Given the suspicions and counter-allegations, the question arises whether the National Police Authority tried to suppress the incident? The role of police officials came under question as the officials of the concerned police station initially did not take any action despite a written complaint from an army major about harassment by Lord Romeo. The police took action against Lord Romeo after the order of the Odisha Police. Meanwhile, surprising differences have emerged in the statements of the Bhubaneswar Communist Party and the army chief candidate. What did Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh claim?

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh told ANI on September 17 that an Army Major and his fiancée came to Bharatpur Police Station in distress.

When they reached the police station, they got upset. He started talking aggressively to the officer and started shouting at him. The woman behaved inappropriately towards the concerned police officer at the police station. People were harassed at the police station. He (the candidate for Army Chief) was clearly not in a good mental state and was drunk. He started threatening the officers. The woman hit a police officer who tried to stop her and bit his finger. When he could not control himself, the IIC came and misbehaved with him. Her male friend also started arguing. So a complaint was lodged against them. “The woman was arrested in several cases,” Singh told the news agency.
