Armstrong murder case: All 12 people released on bail ordered to surrender

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai High Court has cancelled the bail of 12 people arrested in the Armstrong murder case and ordered them to appear before the Chennai District Principal Sessions Court on March 6.
Armstrong, the state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, was murdered near his home last year. Twenty-seven people, including the notorious rioter Nagendran and his son Ashwathaman, were arrested in the case. Two remain at large. The main accused, Nagendran, died due to ill health. A single High Court judge had ordered the case transferred to the CBI investigation, which the Tamil Nadu government appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, while hearing the case, ordered an interim stay on the CBI investigation. Meanwhile, the Chennai District Principal Sessions Court granted bail to 14 people, including the main accused, Ashwathaman and Anjalai.
The police department had filed a petition in the Chennai High Court to overturn this order. Armstrong’s wife, Porkodi, also filed a petition in the High Court with the same request.
The case came up for hearing on Friday before Judge K. Rajashekhar. In his order, the judge canceled the bail orders of 12 of the 14 people granted bail in the Armstrong murder case, including Anjalai and Arcot Suresh’s wife, Porkodi.
The judge ordered the police to produce all 12 people, including Aswathaman, Hariharan, and Pradeep, whose bail had been canceled, before the Chennai District Principal Sessions Court on March 6.
