APSDMA issues alert amid rain forecast
Andhra Pradesh: Amid a low pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal, Disaster Management Organisation Managing Director Ronanki Kurmanath has issued warnings about the likely weather conditions. Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with widespread thunderstorms on Monday, with heavy rainfall forecast between 14th and 17th of this month.
Kurmanath cautioned that strong winds reaching speeds of 35 to 55 kilometres per hour will affect coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. As a precaution, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
The Disaster Management Authority has set up a control room and made toll-free numbers available for emergency situations. Residents are urged to call 1070, 112 or 18004250101 if they need assistance.
Additionally, Kurmanath has warned people in inland areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the rains. He particularly advised against taking shelter under fallen electricity poles, wires, trees or hoardings and urged farmers, labourers and shepherds working in the fields to avoid staying under poles and towers due to the threat of lightning.
As the situation evolves, residents are encouraged to stay informed and prioritise their safety to effectively deal with adverse weather conditions.
