Appointment of doctors as per patients: Government doctors protest in Chennai

Tamil Nadu : More than 200 government doctors in Chennai went on strike on Sunday demanding appointment of doctors according to the number of patients in Tamil Nadu.

The protest was held near Rajarathnam Maidan in Egmore, Chennai by the Federation of Government Doctors Association over the long-standing demands of government doctors to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiruvukana. More than 200 people, including Democratic Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association president Balakrishnan, secretary Senthilkumar, Government Doctors and Postgraduate Doctors Association president Saminathan, general secretary Ramalingam, Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association president Kartheeswaran, general secretary Akilan and Government All Doctors Association secretary Sakthikumar, participated in the protest. Doctors Association for Social Equality general secretary G.R.Ravindranath participated in the protest and expressed support.

He then said:

Government Order 354 brought in 2009 during the reign of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi should be reviewed and salaries should be given to government doctors. Primary health centre doctors should be immediately given a stipend of Rs 3,000. More than 1,500 medical college posts removed through Government Order 4(D) should be brought back.

Doctors should be appointed according to the number of patients. He said that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should immediately call us for talks and resolve the issue peacefully by listening to the voice of government doctors who have been fighting for these demands for 8 years.
