
Mizoram: Police in Champhai district have arrested eight women in separate operations in a major crackdown against drugs. A total of 352 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth approximately ₹7 million in the international market, was recovered from them. Police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
On Wednesday, police in Champhai district, eastern Mizoram, apprehended several suspects during a routine vehicle check. According to police officials, most of the seizures occurred at the Khankawon checkpoint on the outskirts of Champhai town. This checkpoint is considered a key transit point on the route to Aizawl, where vehicles are regularly checked.
Police reported that eight women were arrested during separate operations. During searches, a total of 352 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession. The estimated value of the seized drugs is estimated to be approximately ₹7 million. Police believe this consignment may be linked to a larger network.
The largest seizure occurred in the Bethlehem Wangchak area of the capital, Aizawl. Police arrested a 19-year-old woman, who was found with 180 grams of heroin. This is believed to be the largest seizure of the entire operation. Police have begun questioning the accused woman.
According to police officials, a case has been registered against all the arrested women under relevant sections. Investigating agencies are trying to determine where this consignment of heroin was brought from and through which network it was to be transported. The investigation is currently ongoing, and the possibility of further arrests has not been ruled out.
