Angered by torture, wife hanged herself, husband arrested

Raigarh. Savitri Devangan (46 years), living near Sonumuda Kali Temple under Jute Mill police station, committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented house on June 01, 2023. In this case, Jute Mill Police conducted a probe and took the statements of the deceased’s family members and witnesses. During the investigation, the deceased’s family members told that two months before the incident, Sangram Mahant and Savitri were living like husband and wife after getting it registered in front of a notary. .

Sangram Mahant used to harass his wife Savitri every day by quarreling, due to which Savitri was physically and mentally disturbed and she committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented house on 1 June. The family told that in the past, Savitri Dewangan had lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police against her husband Sangram Mahant for quarreling and assaulting her.

After investigation by the Jute Mill Police, a crime was registered under Section 306 of Indian Penal Code at the Jute Mill police station behind Sonumuda Kali Temple, against the woman’s husband Sangram Mahant alias Pappu, father Jagram Mahant, age 45, who was accused of inducing the woman to commit suicide on January 10. Accused Sangram Mahant was absconding, who was arrested today by Jutmil Police on informer’s information and sent to court for judicial remand. After receiving the judicial remand of the accused, the Jutmil Police has sent the accused to jail. Assistant sub-inspector Narendra Sidar and constable Ved Prakash Patel have played a special role in the arrest of the accused, the accomplice of police station in-charge jute mill inspector Ramkinkar Yadav.
