Andhra Pradesh: Two people arrested for raping and murdering a woman
GUNTUR: The police have arrested two men for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering a woman in Karampudi in Palnadu districts. Revealing the case at a press meet held at Narasaraopet on Friday, District SP Mallika Garg said the deceased woman was a resident of Oppicherla village and ran a small grocery shop for a living. After a dispute with her husband, she stayed alone in her house. She also allegedly sold illicit liquor and a case was registered against her by the Karampudi police.
On June 26, Ramavath Babu Naik (35), a resident of Masjid Bazar in Karampudi, and his relative Banavath Balu Naik (35) had gone to the victim’s house to buy liquor. A dispute broke out between them and the accused hit her on the head with a pestle and raped her. They snatched her earrings and fled from the spot. The victim died on the spot due to heavy bleeding.
On receiving the information, the police started investigation. On the instructions of DIG Sarveshwar Tripathi, the police formed special teams and arrested the accused near the NSP canal on Karampudi-Vinukonda Road on Friday. Mallika Garg presented a commendation certificate to the officers involved in the investigation and arresting the accused within 24 hours of receiving information about the incident.
