Andhra Pradesh-Telangana floods affect over 450,000 people
Andhra Pradesh: Unexpected rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have killed 35 people and caused extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture. Sixteen people lost their lives in Telangana, while 19 people died in Andhra Pradesh due to incessant rains since Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain in some areas of both states on Tuesday. The Telangana Chief Minister has estimated the damage to be around Rs 5,000 crore. He has requested immediate assistance of Rs 2,000 crore from the Centre. Additionally, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the floods a national disaster and visit the affected areas.
Around 450,000 people have been affected by heavy rains and subsequent floods in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities have moved 31,238 persons to relief camps. The worst-affected districts include NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam.
Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has visited the flood-affected areas. He has requested additional boats and helicopters from the central government to aid relief efforts.
The South Central Railway has cancelled 18 trains and diverted two others due to heavy rains and waterlogging. The Indian Navy has deployed two helicopters for search and rescue missions in the affected areas.
The situation remains grim as authorities continue their efforts to provide relief to those affected by this natural calamity. The focus is on ensuring safety and restoring normalcy as soon as possible.
