An IndiGo plane struck the runway during landing; a major accident was averted.

Ranchi: An IndiGo flight’s tail struck the runway during landing at Ranchi airport, officials said on Saturday.

They said the incident occurred on Friday around 7:30 pm when the IndiGo flight, carrying approximately 70 passengers, was landing after arriving from Bhubaneswar.

“The aircraft’s tail touched the runway during landing. Passengers felt a sudden jolt. However, all of them are safe and disembarked without any injuries,” said Ranchi Airport Director Vinod Kumar.

He said the aircraft was grounded after the incident as it was found to be technically unfit for takeoff.

“The subsequent flight from Ranchi to Bhubaneswar was canceled. Some passengers canceled their trips, while others rescheduled. Some passengers were sent to Bhubaneswar by road,” he added.
