Amritsar: 18-year-old girl kidnapped and gang-raped

Punjab: In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl from border village Kamirpura was allegedly abducted by four youths and later gang-raped in Jalandhar’s Talwandi Madho. The incident took place on May 29, though the Ajnala police registered a case in this regard on June 2 after family members along with Jamhuri Kisan Sabha leaders staged a strong protest. Senior Jamhuri Kisan Sabha (JKS) leader Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala alleged that the accused were escaping due to political support. However, SSP (Amritsar rural) Maninder Singh said raids were being conducted to nab the accused.
Those booked in the case include Gurpreet Singh of Wariyah village in Bhindi Saidan, Gursharan Singh and his brother Jaskaran Singh of Kamirpura village and their two unidentified accomplices. Dr Ajnala and another prominent leader of Jamhuri Kisan Sabha, Rattan Singh Randhawa, accompanied the girl and her family, who narrated the harrowing details of the incident. The girl said she was on her way to school when the accused forcibly abducted her and threatened that they had taken her father into custody and would kill her if she did not go with them. She said she was taken to Talwandi Madho in Jalandhar where they raped her in turns in a chhanna (makeshift shade).
