Amravati: ₹319 crores received for birth certificates of Bangladeshis, Rohingyas

Maharashtra: BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has made a serious allegation that more than 1,100 Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslims have been issued birth certificates on the basis of fake documents in Anjangaon Surji taluka of the district. Taking cognizance of his complaint, the Amravati district administration has formed a committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. Meanwhile, Kirit Somaiya visited Anjangaon Surji on Monday and said that the whole matter will be exposed. He said that Bangladeshis and Rohingyas who obtained birth certificates on the basis of fake documents will be sent back by putting them in buses. Kirit Somaiya said, Rs 2200 crore came to Maharashtra from Bangladesh. Out of this, Rs 319 crore has been spent on birth certificates of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. It was reported that 1100 Rohingyas and Bangladeshis were given fake birth certificates in Anjangaon Surji Anjangaon Surji is a municipal council with a population of 60,000, and there are 20,000 Muslims here. Applications have been received for birth certificates of 1,400 people. 98 percent of these birth certificates are of Bangladeshis. This incident happened during the election code of conduct. Therefore, everyone should be investigated.

Kirit Somaiya said, there is no objection to issuing birth certificates to those born here. But, those who have received certificates on the basis of fake documents should be re-investigated. After our complaint, a special committee has been formed to investigate this matter. We also discussed with the members of this committee. We told them about the kind of errors seen in other parts of the state while distributing birth certificates.

Proof of ration card has been given while distributing birth certificates, but it is necessary to check whether this ration card is real or not. There is no system to check this in the tehsil office, now other investigation agencies will have to work in this regard. These agencies will help the special committee and check whether the documents are genuine or not. Somaiya said that Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living illegally will have to go back.
