Amit Shah targets Congress, BRS in Karnataka

Bidar (IANS) | Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday blamed the Congress and the BRS for ignoring the sacrifices of the martyrs who freed Hyderabad from the Nizam’s rule. Amit Shah made this statement during the inauguration of the Gorta Martyr Memorial and the statue of the country’s first Home Minister late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Gorta village in Bidar district of Karnataka. Amati Shah also hoisted the 103 feet high national flag on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah recalled that hundreds of people from Gorta were killed by the Nizam’s army for hoisting a small flag. Today we have hoisted a huge flag here.

Amit Shah hit out at the Congress party for ignoring the sacrifices of hundreds of people who laid down their lives for the liberated areas under the Nizam’s rule after the rest of the country got independence.

Shah accused the Congress, due to vote bank politics, the Congress never paid respect to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Hyderabad liberation struggle.

Shah did not even spare the ruling BRS party in Telangana. Shah said that the Telangana government has been continuously refraining from celebrating Hyderabad Liberation Day, but the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been celebrating it in Telangana since last year.

Promising to build a grand memorial with an outlay of Rs 50 crore if the BJP is voted back to power in Karnataka, Shah said Hyderabad Liberation Day next year would be celebrated at Gorta.

The event was attended by former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, among others.
