America and Western countries raised questions on the credibility of elections held in Russia
New Delhi: America and many western countries have raised questions amid reports of current Russian President Vladimir Putin’s re-election. These countries have questioned the credibility of the electoral process in the Russian presidential election. The White House National Security Council spokesperson said that there is a lack of fairness and independence in the election process. Putin has jailed his political opponents and barred many from running in elections. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also hit out at his Russian counterpart, saying Putin is doing everything to stay in power. In a statement, Britain’s Foreign Office criticized Russia for illegally holding elections on Ukrainian territory. The statement said that this shows that Russia is not interested in finding a path to peace. Germany’s Foreign Ministry said Putin’s rule is dependent on censorship, repression and violence. Poland’s Foreign Ministry has also questioned the fairness of the elections held in Russia. “The conditions of repression in which the voting took place in Russia made it impossible to make a free, democratic choice,” the Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
