Amazon partners with government trade bodies

Business Business. E-commerce giant Amazon India on Wednesday said it has partnered with over 45 government emporiums, NGOs and trade bodies in India to bridge the gap between artisans and customers, thereby providing economic opportunities to marginalised weaver communities. “Customers can shop over 1.5 lakh products from 25 states showcasing regional diverse crafts of India. Amazon will also launch a showcase of selections from over 35 state emporiums including Biswa Bangla, Panthoibi, Garvi Gurjari, House of Himalaya and others,” a company statement said. Over 2,500 master weavers, cooperatives, artisans and government organisations under various ministries such as textiles, cottage industries and tribal welfare have joined Amazon.in for online sales, according to the statement. Further, Amazon said its annual Amazon Karigar program enables the revival of indigenous arts and crafts, while providing a platform for local sellers to list and sell their goods to a larger consumer base online.
