All-party meeting called by Home Minister Shah begins on Manipur violence
New Delhi (IANS) | The all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has started regarding the continuous violence in Manipur. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi are present on behalf of the government in this all-party meeting being chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah in the Library Building of Parliament House. Several Home Ministry officials also attended the meeting.
Talking about political parties, in the all-party meeting, National President JP Nadda from BJP, former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh from Congress, Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), Chief Minister of Meghalaya and NPP leader Konrad K. Sangma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang from SKM, Derek O’Brien from Trinamool Congress, C Lalrosanga from Mizo National Front, Pinaki Mishra from BJD, M. Thambidurai from AIADMK, Tiruchi Siva from DMK, Manoj Jha from RJD, Ram Gopal from SP Yadav, Sanjay Singh from AAP and representatives of several other political parties are also present.
It is being told that in this meeting the leaders of all parties will be briefed by the Central Government about the ongoing violence in Manipur and its causes. The government can also appeal to all political parties to cooperate on this issue.
In fact, on behalf of the opposition parties, there was a continuous demand from the Central Government to call an all-party meeting regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur. However, the Congress has also questioned the convening and delay of the all-party meeting in the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
