AISF MLA wrote a letter to Amit Shah, told about the threat to his life

Kolkata (IANS) | Naushad Siddiqui, the lone MLA of the All India Secular Front (AISF), has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah threatening his life amid large-scale violence over the nomination process for the July 8 panchayat polls in West Bengal. In the letter, Siddiqui has also sought central assistance for his security. Siddiqui is an elected MLA from Bhangar assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district, which has been the epicenter of recent clashes and violence.

On Wednesday, Siddiqui was at the state secretariat in Nabanna to discuss with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on ways to resolve the ongoing violence. However, he did not get a chance to meet him.

Siddiqui said, I had earlier sent an email to the Chief Minister’s office for the meeting. But I didn’t get any response to my email, so I decided to go straight to the state secretariat to meet him. However, Siddiqui said that the CM could not meet him due to his busy schedule.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar also called Shah to update him on the situation in West Bengal.

On the other hand, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has issued a notice to the office of the West Bengal State Election Commission seeking a report on the ongoing violence.

NCSC vice-chairman Arun Haldar said if the report is not available, he will summon State Election Commissioner Rajeev Sinha to New Delhi.

On Thursday, Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. A bench of Justices Sivagnanam and Hiranmoy Bhattacharya had directed the Election Commission to deploy central forces across the state for the rural body polls.

The Division Bench also set a time-frame for the commission to seek central forces from the Union Home Ministry.
