Ahmedabad: State government submits a report to the High Court on the use of children in drug trafficking

The High Court had earlier filed a suo motu petition on the use of children in drug trafficking in the state. On which further hearing was held on Thursday. Between the year 2020 and 2022, a total of 177 cases of NDPS Act have been registered and 251 accused have been arrested. The state government has also revealed in the report that 5 minors are accused. In the hearing on Thursday, SOG filed an affidavit in the High Court.

High court assured to get checking done

After media reports about children being used as drug peddlers were published, the police registered a complaint and arrested the accused. Apart from this, the details of the work done by the police were presented in the High Court. In which the High Court has assured to do intensive checking in suspicious areas. At present, 18 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against 20 juveniles. A report has been submitted in the court that the state government is taking appropriate steps to rehabilitate such children.

Four crimes related to e-cigarettes in Ahmedabad city

The state government informed the court that the government had stated before the court that regular checking was being done to prevent tobacco and drug abuse in and around the school and college. The government said that 2,609 offenses have been registered in the drive for the sale of tobacco and other contraband items around schools and colleges. 3,92,000 fine has been imposed in such cases. Four offenses related to e-cigarettes have been registered in Ahmedabad city. In which 3,266 e-cigarettes have been seized. The High Court has ordered the government to take strict action in the matter of trafficking of these children. Now the next hearing on this issue will be on June 16.
