After seizing a trailer from a hotel owner, they sold the vehicle’s cargo bed; two cunning criminals were caught using GPS tracking.
Raigarh. A serious case of breach of trust and fraud has come to light in the Gharghoda area of the district, where the accused rented a trailer truck from a hotel owner, sold its trailer bed, and were also planning to sell the engine. Under the direction of SSP Mr. Shashi Mohan Singh and the guidance of Additional SP Anil Soni, the Gharghoda police station took swift action and arrested the accused, Parmeshwar Chauhan, a resident of Baiskimuda village, Lailunga police station, and his accomplice Leelambar Prasad Chauhan, a resident of Khedama village, and sent them to judicial custody.
The complainant in the fraud case, 48-year-old Meena Chauhan, wife of Sadhu Ram Chauhan, a resident of Kanchanpur village, filed a report at the Gharghoda police station on February 7, 2026, stating that she runs a hotel with her sons near the Gharghoda-Dharamjaigarh road. Two years ago, she had purchased a used trailer vehicle, number CG-13-LA-4176, from Akbar Khan of Raigarh for Rs. 16 lakhs, which was financed by Tata Finance Company. Due to delays in obtaining insurance and other documents, the vehicle was parked in front of the hotel.
During this time, Parmeshwar Chauhan, who worked as a supervisor in transport companies in the Gharghoda area, started inquiring about the vehicle. When the complainant informed him about the pending documents, he offered to get the paperwork done at his own expense and pay a monthly rent of Rs. 85,000. Falling for his deception, the woman agreed. On January 20, 2026, Parmeshwar Chauhan arrived at the hotel with his accomplice Leelambar Prasad Chauhan, and Leelambar drove the trailer away, saying that he would finalize the paperwork after using it for a few days.
A few days later, Parmeshwar switched off his mobile phone and became unreachable. Suspicious, the location of the trailer was tracked using its GPS, which showed the vehicle’s location in Kunjara, Lailunga area. On February 5, the woman and her sons reached the spot and found that only the engine of the trailer was there; the rest of the trailer was missing. Based on the report, a case was registered at Ghargoda Police Station under Crime Number 43/2026, Sections 318(4), 316(2), 316(3), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation was initiated.
Station House Officer Inspector Kumar Gaurav Sahu interrogated the complainant and witnesses, conducted raids to apprehend the accused, and took both into custody. During questioning, Lilambar Chauhan confessed that he and Parmeshwar had sold the trailer’s body in Bilaspur around January 22, 2026, and were preparing to sell the engine as well, having parked it near Kunjara while searching for a buyer.
The police seized the engine of the trailer vehicle bearing registration number CG-13-LA-4176 from the possession of the accused. Upon finding sufficient evidence, the accused (1) Parmeshwar Chauhan, son of Puniram Chauhan, age 45 years, resident of Baiskimuda village, Lailunga Police Station, and (2) Lilambar Prasad Chauhan, son of Mastram Chauhan, age 36 years, resident of Khedama village, Lailunga Police Station, Raigarh district, were formally arrested, produced before the court, and sent on remand.
