Advisor to the Power Department for the development of Sikkim

GANGTOK, : A coordination-cum-revenue meeting for Namchi district circle was held at Namchi today. The meeting was chaired by MLA and Power department advisor Sanjeet Kharel, accompanied by Power secretary (Revenue), principal chief engineer (Revenue) and key officials from the Power department.

At the outset, principal chief engineer (Revenue) T.T. Bhutia gave a detailed presentation on the revenue and energy consumption of the Namchi circle, offering valuable insights into the current status of both.

Secretary (Revenue) Bikash Deokota highlighted the importance of effective revenue realization in sustaining the State’s financial health. He noted that the installation of smart meters is imminent, which will significantly improve energy management, streamline revenue collection, reduce revenue leakages, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the system.

Advisor Sanjeet Kharel emphasized the pivotal role that revenue collection plays in the State’s development and progress. He stressed that generating and managing revenue is fundamental not only to maintaining and upgrading the State’s infrastructure but also to supporting ongoing and future development projects. Kharel reiterated that a consistent and robust revenue stream ensures the uninterrupted supply of power to every household and supports the vision of a prosperous and self-sustaining Sikkim.

Kharel underscored the importance of engaging the local communities in understanding the significance of revenue payments. He recommended a 15-day reconciliation period to be provided to rural areas to ensure that residents fully comprehend the value of contributing to the State’s revenue system. This, he noted, would not only promote better compliance but also foster a deeper understanding of the critical role that revenue plays in the state’s development.

Furthermore, Kharel urged all superintending engineers (SEs) and divisional engineers (DEs) to engage in field visits, directly connecting with communities to educate them on the revenue collection process and address any concerns. He also appreciated all officers from A to D grade for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that power continues to reach every corner of Sikkim while assisting in the revenue collection efforts. Additionally, Kharel emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in offices, office toilets and premises.

Regarding the Namchi district circle, Kharel specifically instructed the team to work diligently towards realizing revenue. He stressed the need for enhanced efforts and efficiency to improve revenue generation in this region.

The meeting was also attended by additional chief engineer and other concerned officials from the department including SEs, DEs, AEs, JEs, demand clerks, meter readers and revenue supervisors from the Namchi circle.
