Actress Mahiya Mahi arrested

Dhaka: Dhaka-based film actress Mahiya Mahi was arrested from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday in a case registered under the Digital Security Act (DSA). According to the statement of the case, Mahiya Mahi went live in the early hours of Friday accusing the police from her Facebook page.

Confirming the matter to IANS on Saturday, GMP Assistant Commissioner (AC, Media-DB) Asaduzzaman said that the Ghazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) arrested the actress around 11 am when she was returning from Saudi Arabia. She has returned after making a pilgrimage to Mecca.

Two cases were registered against Mahiya Mahi and her husband for defaming the police through Facebook Live and for their alleged involvement in extortion, assault with a businessman.

Basan police station’s sub-inspector Rokon Mia has registered a case against Mahi and her husband Rakib Sarkar under the Digital Security Act, while businessman Ismail Hussain has registered a case against 28 people, including the couple, at Basan police station on Friday night for assault, vandalism and forcible use. Charged with land grab.
