Actress M.N. Rajam and director S.P. Muthuraman were given the Chief Minister’s Special Awards.

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday presented the “Arts Industry Award” as a special award to renowned actress M.N. Rajam and film director S.P. Muthuraman.
The News and Public Relations Department’s 2022-2023 Grant Request announced that the Tamil Nadu government will annually confer the “Artist Memorial Arts Department Vidhakar Award” to recognize and commemorate lifetime achievers in the Tamil film industry, with a cash prize of ₹10 lakh and a memento for the selected awardees.
Accordingly, the 2024 “Arts Industry Award” was presented to renowned actress M.N. Rajam, and the 2025 award was presented to renowned film director S.P. Muthuraman.
Actress M.N. Rajam began acting in plays at a young age and made her film debut as a child artist in 1949. He has appeared in over 200 Tamil films, including “Rattakannir,” “Pennin Koodus,” “Puthayyal,” “Thangapattumayi,” “Nadodi Mannan,” and “Pasamalar,” leaving an indelible mark on people’s hearts.
Film director S.P. Muthuraman began his film career as an assistant director in the 1960 film “Kalathur Kannamma” and became a successful director in Tamil cinema from 1970 to 1990. He has directed over 70 Tamil films.
At a function held at the Secretariat on Monday, actress M.N. Rajam and Muthuraman were presented with the Kalaignar Memorial Kalaithura Vidhakar Award, along with a cash prize of ₹10 lakh each and a memento. Their families thanked Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for the recognition.
Information Minister M.P. Swaminathan, Chief Secretary N. Muruganantham, Tamil Development and Information Secretary V. Rajaraman, Director of Information and Public Relations I. Vaithianathan, Dravidian Movement Tamil Assembly President Shubh Veerapandian and others attended the function.
